About Senecio Haworthii - Cocoon Plant (Wooly Senecio)
Senecio Haworthii is one of the tantalizing dwarf succulent cultivars for its distinct appearance belonging to the Asteraceae family, also known as the Cocoon Plant, native to South Africa. Senecio Haworthii's fleshy leaves are in the whorl, arranged in loose rosettes. The frosty gray cylindrical foliage is blade tipped and thick in the middle. The surface is wrapped with a curved moon-shaped thick layer of silvery-white fluff, as white as snow, adding to Senecio Haworthii's appeal. The bright yellow flowers appear on the terminal inflorescence in summer and winter, making it more attractive.
How to care for Senecio Haworthii - Cocoon Plant
Sun/Location: Senecio Haworthii same like most succulents prefers warm locations to thrive. The foliage would be plumper and lusher, the white hairs denser, and the growth gap more compact when grown under sufficient light and an excessive temperature difference between day and night. Senecio Haworthii belongs to the winter grower, requiring shade in the heatwave and growing light in winter to defend against frost.
Soil/Pot: What Senecio Haworthii need is a substrate that is well-drained while providing moderate moisture and inorganic nutrients. Mix compost, perlite, and peat moss or coconut coir at a 1:1:1 ratio, which is the perfect potting soil. Repot when needed to provide Senecio Haworthii with a cleaner pot with fresh soil. The succulent roots need to be pruned to grow healthier.
Watering: Senecio Haworthii is vulnerable to overwatering, resulting in leaning and leggy stems with visible spaces between the foliage and root rot. The soak-and-dry method is always highly recommended to adapt to these cute succulents. Let the soil dry out completely, then drench again. Use watering squeeze bottles to pour water along the edge of the pot to the deep soil rather than the foliage to prevent bacteria or fungal diseases and waterlogging. The water on the leaves should be blown dry in time.
