About Echeveria 'Matcha Cake'

Echeveria 'Matcha Cake' is a rare ornament cultivar belonging to the Echeveria genus in the Crassulaceae family. Echeveria 'Matcha Cake' features silvery-gray ovate-shaped plump and lush leaves, forming the compact rosette. Like Echeveria blue bird, Echeveria 'Matcha Cake' bears thick pruinose and glaucous coating (succulent farina) to protect from the intense sunshine and prevent sunburn, enhancing the fairy tale sense and adding appeal to this cutie. The orange or yellow blossoms appear on the stalk in the summer month, adding a burst of color and fragrance to your space.

How to care for Echeveria 'Matcha Cake'

Sun/Location: Echeveria 'Matcha Cake' thrives in sufficient and filtered sunlight for at least 6 hours per day to develop the compact rosette and thick farina during the growing seasons in spring and autumn. Echeveria 'Matcha Cake' is susceptive to scorching and direct sunlight rays, requiring partial shade in intense summer. Click here to get the full guide to succulent care in summer. Keep succulent plants above 50°F at all times to avoid frost damage to the leaves and roots, requiring an artificial growth light in freezing weather.

Soil/Pot: E. 'Matcha Cake' hates to sit in the soggy potting soil and poor air permeability planter pot, requiring well-draining potting soil and a container with good drainage to thrive. E. 'Matcha Cake' is prone to root rot caused by overwatering or stagnant moisture in the succulent soil. Pick up a planter pot with drainage holes to evaporate moisture smoothly and prevent water from accumulating around the roots. Blend perlite or coarse sand into the potting soil mix at 1:1:1 to increase drainage and prevent compaction. Repot when needed to upgrade the porosity for healthier growth. Trim the roots and discard the dry and dead leaves in the bottom to avoid pest inspection. How to use neem oil as an organic insecticide.

Watering: Echeveria 'Matcha Cake' is a drought-tolerant succulent plant with abundant water storage in the plump and lush leaves, requiring infrequent and sparing watering to thrive. Avoid overwatering to prevent waterlogging and rot roots or fungal diseases. Water occasionally once a week during the growing seasons in spring and autumn to maintain the growth. Reduce watering once 1-2 weeks in scorching summer and dormant winter to avoid rot roots or fungal and bacterial diseases.

Humidity: Echeveria 'Matcha Cake' prefers relatively low humidity levels ranging from 30-50%. It is adapted to supply a humidifier or place a tray of water near Echeveria 'Matcha Cake' if grown in bone-dry areas. However, prolonged exposure to high humidity or wet conditions increases the risk of rot roots and fungal or bacterial diseases. Click here to learn how humidity effect succulents' growth.
